Additional Expertise
Services: Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety can be good when it helps us to achieve our goals in a healthy way. For example, a little anxiety about an upcoming school or licensure exam provides just enough fuel to convince you to study. However, if you have too much anxiety, you may procrastinate or be fearful of performing on the exam, which will impact you negatively.
Finding a balance for your anxiety is important for success. Through counseling, you can learn how to recognize and regulate your system so you can achieve balance to attain your goals.
Services: Counseling Adolescents and College Students
High school and college can be some of the most stressful times as adolescents enter into adulthood. They are expected to do more and know more, but don’t yet have all the tools to manage new demands to maintain good mental health. These stressors may be heightened if a student has a mental health diagnosis and can make it very difficult to focus on school. During this time, students may also still live at home or be dependent on parents, but may also be moving into a phase where they would like more autonomy.
Whether it is stressors with school or relationships with family or friends, I work with adolescents to discuss ways to build their toolbox and learn to mindfully manage anxiety and stress.
Services: Counseling Children
Children with anxiety or depression may have difficulty at home, at school, or socializing with friends. Children are not little adults, so they often do not tolerate a full session of “talk therapy”; Until middle school, children’s language in counseling is often play. I provide individual counseling sessions with children for 30-45 minutes and focus on attachment.
Before I meet the child client, I have a session with his/her parents to determine the child’s stressor is so that I may have prepared developmentally appropriate, personalized play and talk interventions during session that actively engage the child so they may process those stressors. I create a collaborative treatment plan with parents where they will be updated on the child’s progress, as well as offering skills for use at home.
Services: Depression Therapy
Depression (or major depressive disorder) is a serious medical illness, but is a medical issue that can be treated. Depression can be biological, can be caused by environmental stressors, or both. I offer a holistic approach to treating depression by assessing factors around how and when depressive symptoms began and then creating an individualized action plan with the client to reduce negative symptoms.
I utilize a variety of treatments depending on your treatment plan, including CBT, DBT, IFS, hypnotherapy, EMDR, and more. And if you request or require a medication consult, I may help connect you with an MD that can assist you with that portion of treatment.
Services: Group Counseling
Group therapy can be an excellent way for people to normalize a problem and feel less alone. In group therapy, clients can learn in an experiential way that people can have different life experiences, but can understand each other’s feelings that accompany those experiences. This can lead to hope and new insight and pave the way for healing through relationships in a trusting and warm and empathetic environment.
Group sessions are 60 minutes, 120 minutes, or 120 minutes, depending on the format. If you are interested in joining a group, please contact me or click here for a list of groups.
Services: Individual Counseling
Individual counseling sessions are 45-50 minutes in the King building at the Concourse. I offer a warm and inviting environment in a place where you can safely and privately process your stressors.
I love working with many different populations to explore how they experience the world. I strive to offer a safe, inclusive, and accepting environment for clients of all backgrounds to explore their individual stressors. Because each client is different, I work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan that works with you and your lifestyle.
